Should you take an mRNA Vaccine for Covid-19?

Within the next one to three months, it’s likely we’ll be faced with the decision to take or not to take an mRNA vaccine for Covid-19. I have done my best to answer the following questions with the hope that it may ease the decision:

  • How does it work?
  • Is it safe and how do we know?
  • Is it effective and how do we know?
  • Will it prevent transmission?
  • What are the “side effects,” from vaccination?
  • Will the vaccine be useful in those previously infected with Covid-19?
  • What is the onset and duration of immunity?
  • Will I be taking it?

To see the answers, you can read this article on my website.

My Case of Appendicitis

Five weeks ago, I diagnosed my own case of appendicitis while working in the emergency department. At the end of my shift, I went straight to the operating room for an appendectomy. I learned a lot from this experience, not the least of which was gaining a new first-hand perspective on the stress of being a patient.

I’ve done my best to write up my case from start to finish – from symptom onset to recovery – so that others who endure the same might benefit from reading about my experience. In addition to the story of my case, I’ve included commentary on the medical aspects including diagnostics, treatment decisions, anesthesia plans, and the basics of the surgical procedure. The article ends with an account of my recovery and an explanation of my recovery “regimen.”

If you’re interested, you can read the whole story on my website.
